Location: Ardoyne House, Pembroke Park, Ballsbridge, D4
Project Size: 98 sq meters
Type of wood: Quartersawn Oak Parquet
This magnificent 8th floor apartment underwent complete renovation in 2011, installing new solid parquet flooring throughout and upgrading the rooms and bathrooms into modern, luxurious spaces. We have been approached by Simpson Design Management to source, design and install parquet flooring that will comply with current building regulations and will highlight bespoke interior design.
The apartment is located in Ardoyne House, a multi-story apartment building, constructed in the mid-60’s and therefore offer significant design challenges that have been met with a number of innovative techniques that have not previously been used.
Biggest challenge we faced during the project was to come up with bespoke solution that will allow hardwood floor installation in apartment building. Current building regulations ban use of hardwood flooring in apartment blocks due to impact sound transferable through concrete floors which most affects apartment directly beneath. Our research in current building codes and manufacturers of best acoustic insulation materials provided us with the knowledge that helped develop unique solution approved by architect and acoustic engineer.
Another challenge came up with the fact that apartment will be occupied only for 4 weeks in the year which makes the choice of wood floor covering very limited in terms of type, species, grade, width, finish type and method of installation.
When our final proposal got stamp of approval from Simpson Design Management we’ve proceed with installation. Floated subfloor went first consisting 18mm OSB T&G and 8mm acoustic membrane that dampens and absorbs noise transmission from footfall and other types of impact noise.
As final floor layer designer have chosen from our exclusive line – Solid European Oak, 22x70x500, Quartersawn, installed in herringbone pattern with border. By choosing quartersawn wood we achieved 2 requirements:
- Extraordinary dimensional stability
- Plain, uniform, contemporary look.
This new parquet floor is a statement of simplicity and elegance.
